Let's face it, there are those of us who have the skills to design our own web pages, but will it ever happen? Where will you find the time to not only create the website, but also maintain it constantly? Will you keep the content current enough to supply your site visitors with a reason to come back? You might be able to create a site that looks great but will it work well with all of the search engines? When you are getting out your wallet, Web Designers might seem to be robbing you blind but believe me, nine out of ten times a good web designer will save you time, money and a lot of embarrassment if you get it wrong.
Ask yourself, "What do I expect to get out of this website." If you are trying to improve your company image, then choosing between yourself and a professional Web Designer becomes more important than choosing to save a few dollars. Your expectations should include that your finished website will provide you with a return that will outweigh your outlay.
Should I choose to use a WEB DESIGNER or can I do it myself?
Like most things, as a general rule of thumb, you get what you pay for. A really good web designer will have lots of work and so can usually afford to loose the occassional client because the asking price was to high. In the world of web designing the designer will usually be balancing their work load with their pricing. If you look online you will see prices ranging from au$250 and $750 or up further in the thousands. Of course it is also a matter of how much is required by the website. recently we have seen the Australian Governement shelling out au$500,000 plus for some of it's websites. So in answer to the question I would have to ask you a question, which is, how long is a piece of string? The best you can do is ask for a free quote. Then with a little research, ask a website owner of similar size and quality, what it cost for them to develop.
How much would an average WEB DESIGNER cost?
The first thing people generally do is take a look at a web designer's portfolio to see what they can design. If they can display a really cool design or two you might be impressed enough to jump in and buy their services. We recommend you try the following if you want to be a little more savy towards getting the right designer. Firstly open one of their web designed example sites. Take a good look at what the main message of the website is all about then go to your favorite browser and do a search for that website according to the main message. See how long it takes for you to find their example site in this way and if in the end you cannot find it you might want to rethink your choice in designer. Of course to be fair you might want to try more than one of their example sites as the site might have been pulled down by its owner. So you found the example site in your search engine? Hopefully you didn't find it through a pay per click inclusion in the search engine because if it is at the top of the page because they have paid for it to be there, it might mean the site didn't manage to get to the first page of the search naturally. A well coded website will hopefully do well without having to pay for search engine priority, or the WEB DESIGNER should be able to improve your site rankings using other methods that produce a more stable site ranking. Next consider how long the sample website homepage took to open. Most good designs will open in under fifteen seconds! People will not wait for your website to open if it takes longer than this, they will go shopping elsewhere. If you take a look at these simple things you will get a good idea how your own website will fair.
