What is Search Engine Marketing?
Search Engine Marketing is the art of promoting an already published website, blog or other web presence so that it is found by a targeted audience. This is not to be confused with Search Engine Optimisation which is more involved with the design stage of the web content. Promoting your website can be done in the local newspaper, on television or on other websites. Marketing your website on the interent is usually refered to as search engine marketing, but in truth includes much more than search engines. It is a common mistake to think that getting to the top of the search engines is going to deliver success. Usually without a whole heap of visitors searching, finding and then choosing to open your website, nothing happens. We believe the most effective search engine marketing is directed at funnelling targeted traffic toward targeted information which will then deliver statistical results. With this in mind some larger websites are monitored to the point that predictions can be made on how many visitors will click through a particular link, suggesting that a link can be sold, to a value equal to the number of natural click through visitors you might expect. In other words you can buy into some websites, placing a link that leads back to you own website for a price according to expected click throughs provable by past statistics.
Getting you web presence discovered by being at the top of the search engines is always a good thing but being found through natural click through site visitors produces more results due to the fact that the visitor is chasing information that is similar to your page content. So a good search marketing plan will include a wider range of methods to ensure targeted traffic and this is best done through placing links onto bigger websites that are relevant to your site content. Unfortunately the price for these links can be very expensive.
